WINTER DRUM LINE 2012

Winter Drum Line Rehearsal Saturday, January 27th at Rio Vista From 8:00am-12:30. Pizza will be provided for lunch for drum line students. This rehearsal is crucial that all students attend. We will be learning formations and choreography for the battery sections. Below is the competition schedule for this season:

Febuary 3rd: 4pm at Clovis North High School. We will depart from Rio Vista at 12:30 in the after noon and return after the high school performance and awards ceremony at approx. 10:30

March 17th: Time T.B.A. @ Buchanan High School

March 30th: Clovis North Time TBA

Winter Drum Line Practice is every Thusrday in Room 603 music room. Percussion Practice 2:20-4:35 (Subject to change based on attendance to district meetings)

Concert Band Spring 2012 Schedule

March 10th: Discovery Music Clinic at Rio Vista 8:00am -3:00pm

March 22nd: Sounds of Success Middle School Honor Band Rehearsal at Central East

March 29th: District Music Festival at Central East

April 18th: Performing Arts Showcase at Rio Vista Open House from 6:00 pm- 8:00pm

April 21st: Music in the Parks Festival and Competition in Santa Clara.
Detailed Itinerary will be provide as we get close to the date of the event.

Guitar Performance at Arte Americas
4-6 pm on February 15th.Selected students will depart Rio at 2:20 and Return approx. 7:00 pm

The music program is currently requesting donations of snacks for our students that participate in afterschool rehearsals from percussion, concert band, jazz band, and guitar. Granola bars, cereal bars, trail mix. chips etc. give the students something to eat to hold them over until they get home for dinner. Food (snack) donations may be made at any time throughout the year and are always appreciated (and eaten!)

Any guitar students interested in purchasing a guitar should visit Gottschalk"s Music Center in Clovis. They are located on 328 Pollasky Ave and thier phone number is 298-4400.

We are very excited about your child"s participation in the 2011-2012 Rio Vista Middle School Titan Marching/Concert Band! You have joined in a year that will be full of many memorable moments for you and your family. As we have prepared our calendars we are asking for your support in attending all rehearsals so they will be productive without the stress of falling behind due to absences. Every member of the band is important and must have the basic skills needed to perform with confidence and musicality.

Week of February 28th

Way to go Rio Vista Winter Drum Line!

We placed third in our first competition and beat out Granite Ridge of Clovis along the way. We look forward to improving in the next event and are shooting for 2nd or 1st place this time around!

Congratulations to Sarah Honeywell for her selection to the FMCMEA Honor Band this year. She put in alot of work and represented Rio Vista Music and Central Unified School District with a wonderful performance.

The Next Winter Drum Line Competition Friday March 11th

@ Buchanan High School. Performance times have not yet been released. Please check back for performance times and itinerary for the day. Students should wear Blue jeans and tennis shoes with thier Black hooded sweatshirts. To Check details visit

Extra Rehearsal this Tuesdays and Thursdays through March 10th.

Winter Drum Line

Fees for the season are $60 per student. This includes a black zip up, hooded, sweatshirt with Rio colors and logo. The fee also includes the cost for transportation to and from each of the events and entrance fees to each event.

Each student should bring money for dinner $5-7 should be enough for each event. We will be ordering Pizza. Any parent that is able to make a run and get the pizza would be greatly appreciated.

The first installment of $30 dollars is due by January 24^th and the second installment by February 7^th. The full amount may be paid all at once on the 24^th.

Music in The Parks April 9th

The first Installment of $50 for the Concert Band"s Great America Trip is due on February 7th,2011. The second Installment of $50 will be due on March 7th. Any monies raised through fundraising of coupon books or beef jerky done earlier in the year will go towards the payment of this event. The cost covers entrance fees into the event and the park, Transportation on charter busses, breakfast , and a lunch prior to entering the park. The dress for the event is Concert Black and White.
